Heritage Network Brings 9th Assembly to IIT ISM Dhanbad

The 9th Heritage Network General Assembly took place at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on March 2–3, 2026, convening representatives from member universities across Europe and India.

Over two days of dynamic discussions and exchange, the Assembly focused on advancing academic cooperation and reinforcing the network’s shared vision for the future of global engineering education.

The program featured a keynote address by Mrs. Gwenaëlle Guillerme, Secretary General of the T.I.M.E. Association (Top Industrial Managers in Engineering), who shared valuable insights from her experience in fostering international academic partnerships and developing Double Degree programs among leading engineering and management institutions worldwide.

The 9th General Assembly officially opened with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, attended by Prof. Tanmoy Maity, Dean of IRAA at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Prof. Teresa Zielińska, President of the Heritage Network and Rector’s Proxy for Internationalization at Warsaw University of Technology, and Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava, Vice-President of the Heritage Network.

Guided by this year's theme, Education and Technologies, hosted five conferences highlighting experiences and initiatives in teaching, research, and innovation from across the network’s member universities. These insightful presentations are available to view on this page.

More than a space for academic dialogue, the General Assembly is a pivotal moment for strategic planning and decision-making across the network.

Key Decisions and Elections

Several important decisions were taken during the 2026 Assembly:

  • Politecnico di Milano, Italy was elected to host the 2027 General Assembly, an important moment as we will celebrate the Network's 10th anniversary!
  • Technical University of Leoben (Austria) and Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad (India) are the newest members of the Heritage Network. Explore the complete list of member institutions here.
  • National Institute of Technology Surat Gujarat (India) has been accepted as an Observer member. 

A Network Committed to Excellence

With 16 Indian and 12 European member institutions, the Heritage Network continues to strengthen its mission: fostering collaboration in engineering, science, design, and technology through high-level education and research. Its key objectives include:

  • Facilitating academic and research exchanges between Europe and India
  • Supporting the development of joint educational programs
  • Organizing annual thematic workshops
  • Influencing policy discussions on the internationalization of higher education
  • Cultivating enduring partnerships among its members

Second Edition of the Heritage PhD Workshop

The 2nd Winter Workshop on “AI and Robotics for Sustainability and the Environment” brought together nine PhD students from six IITs, guided by Prof. Arun Dayal Uday, Prof. Zafar Alam, Prof. Deepal K. Mandal, Prof. Omkar Mypati (IIT ISM Dhanbad) and Prof. Vibek Dutta (WUT), for hands-on discussions on applying AI and robotics to environmental challenges.
